Today, I saved a P08 1917 DWM

Today, I saved a P08 1917 DWM from certain destruction at worst to it being converted with a longer barrel at best. The current owner allowed his firearms licence to own "Prohibited" firearms to lapse, and was forced by the RCMP to dispose of it within 14 days. It appeares to be all matching except the Magazine and comes with a Holster (Reproduction). I only purchased it to save it, but after spending time researching on this site, I have developed a fasination with the P08. The owner liked me and let me have it for about $325 American. I will definitely post pictures when I recieve it.

because in Canada it is illegal to own a pistol with a barrel less than 4 inches or something like that.....

If the barrel is under 4" you need to be classified in that category (12.6) to be able to own it. The criteria: You had to be of age (18) to buy restricted firearms (i.e. pistols and certain rifles), when the socialists arbitrarily passed the law and you had to be in possession of one of these short barreled pistols at the time, when the law was passed. You also have to keep you licencing up to date and always have at least one of these short barreled pistols registered in your name.

Although considered prohibited, there are some of us that are allowed to own them as long as the above criteria is met.....for now.

Nice eh!?

In other words, a lot of beaurocratic nonsense.

I pity our brethren in Canada......

Congratulations, Chili, on becoming owner of a fine pistol. I hope that your fascination and the pleasure of owning it grows with each year.

You did nice!
Down here I saved a BAR 1918 from destruction. Of course it cost me much more than 325 bucks...

Welcome to the board

I noticed that there is a Canadian dealer on Gunbroker who is exporting P.08s to the U.S. Perhaps this is because there is not a strong market for them in Canada due to P.08s being "prohibited."
