Police luger

I will be looking at a luger this weekend. It is a ww1 luger with capture papers. And the vet said he took it off a german police man. I know it a story but that all i have to go on for now. It all matching except for the frame. Every other part is matching. The price is $950.00. Is it worth this price. I know with out seeing it. Is hard to say.
At the end of the war did they issue miss match lugers to the police?
Could this luger be correct this way?
I would like to hear from from you.
Regards

Hard to imagine why a frame would be mismatched and all the other parts would be matched.... I do agree that towards the end of the war, anything could happen, and it is true that armorers repaired items, but the frame being mismatched just sounds odd to me....

Things I would look for;

Do the bring back papers show a serial number and if so, does it show the frame number or another number? If it shows the left receiver number; then maybe the frame was replaced later?

The price is high for a obvious mismatch, even with the vets story, but he's at least 82, if not several years older, so hard to say how well he remembers.....

I have observed a few instances in which an entire upper has been replaced and the frame serial number did not match the numbers on the upper. I don't think anyone can give a reasonable estimate of value without knowing a lot more about the gun.

Junk!!!!!!

Hi
This guy may be in his 80"s. But he is not dumb. The so called police luger is junk, The capture papers were real. gave the serial number from the receiver. This is funny stated the cal was 38!!! on the capture papers. And the frame was cracked by the magazine well.!!! I have never seen one cracked there. Have any of you? And he had a Artillery luger all matching with a matching clip. and it had unit markings on the front strap, But some bubba ground the rear sight down as well as the front sight. Made it more better. And he nicked up the receiver by the date with 5 deep nicks. Maybe he had a case stuck in it..Made me sick. And he wanted $2500.00 for that!!!
To better days and Lugers!!

Bob

It is not uncommon for military capture papers to record Lugers in .38 cal. The US had calibers and the Europeans used mm. The 9mm is close to .38 cal, so it was sometimes put on the capture papers.

Too bad about the ruined LP-08. Having unit marks on the grip strap just makes the loss worse.
