Newbie with a 41 byf
4 Attachment(s)
Hello all,
I recently purchased some guns from a widow. As I was finishing loading the gear, the lady said she found another pistol in the bathroom. Now, I had just bought $3k in various guns from her. I said O.K. I'm about spent out for the day I'll give you $200.00. Today I got around to looking at what I bought, it is a 41 -byf. The toggle, trigger, safety, mag release, take down lever and side plate have been nickel plated. The rest of the gun has been abrasive blasted (screwed huh?) inside and out. The good, all matching, even the grips, very tight and shoots great. Now, do I blue it, or Dura Coat for a shooter. TIA, for any help or comments. |
Welcome, weird isn't it?
I would say as is, it is worth $400-$450 as a shooter as is. Kinda hard to take and reblue it. Shame it was messed with, I bet the rest was nickled at one time and the frame and receiver were sand blasted to take the nickle off. Ed |

Do you know what this Luger was doing in her bathroom? The byf 41 I have is a great pistol, very accurate and of high quality manufacture. Sieger |
Screwed? I think not. For $200 you probably could be accused of stealing it. Remove the rest of the nickel plating, re-blue it, and shoot the bejeebers out of it. What a neat opportunity to have a basically sound shooter Luger for the price of the grips.

Her husband kept it in the towels. There were guns everywhere in the house. All loaded, all with the safeties off!
BTW, the nickel was not blasted off, it has been powder blasted to a satin finish. I tried 3 different touch up blueing solutions and none affected the finish. |
"Screwed", not me the pistol. LOL.
I took several, "parts", guns on the deal, I just took a glance, as she had it wrapped in an old towel. With the yellowed stainless look I figured it was a Ruger or Erma .22lr. |
I've had one with all those parts, except the toggle, plated. I had the plating shop strip it and had it all salt blued for a very nice looker.
How about this, match the toggle and side plate to the rest of the gun, and straw the small stuff. You'll be the only one at the range with one of those... DJU |
