1937 S/42 question re finish
I just bought a 1937 S/42. I got it at a good price because it has been reblued. Blue appears to be a quick dip blue without much buffing. Some of the parts are bright metal with the trigger badly strawed. I want to refinish the pistol properly because right now it looks like a $20 whore standing in the middle of a KIA showroom. :crying:
The serial number is 3615d. Can anybody tell me what the finish should be, rust blued or salt blued, and whether the parts should be strawed or not. Thanks Charlie |
Charlie
Check your suffix again. Should not be a 1937 S-42 in a d block. At least not according to my references. Bill |
Hi Bill, I totally agree. My records show the 1937 S/42 range from the mid P-Block, through the alphabet to about the mid B-Block. The D-Block is in the 1938 range (unless something screwy happened)

I looked closer under magnification. It looks like a 'p' canted at an angle to the right (Wrexham light font). Thanks Postino for the font. I would post a photo but my wife has the camera and is out of town.
Does this mean that its an early 1937? Thanks Charlie |
Hi Charlie, please check all the numbers on the pistol to see if they match. Also add pictures of the Waffenamt Marks (Inspection Marks) on the right front of the receiver.
