Help!!!
 

I had this Navy rear sight on Gunbroker that I thought is original. However, it has been pointed out to me that the checkering is wrong on the toggle knobs and the elev adj button. It is not a casting, but is machined. I know that the coupling link is not original, but has been altered to fit a leaf main spring. Can the experts please verify for me the authenticity or lack thereof?

I recall a thread on the "Red Flags" on Navy Lugers. One was that the striations on the sides of the sight are exact, with dull ends and even across the bottom on repros. They are uneven in length on originals, and terminate in a point at the center of the cross pin.

The top photo is an original sight.

I am not knowledgeable in Lugerography...What is the difference between the two coupling links???

There are two major main spring designs. The earliest Lugers use a leaf style mainspring and all later lugers use a coil type spring. The coupling links are different as they are the interface between the toggles, which are essentially the same for both designs, and the different types of main srpings.

The M1900 connecting link is shorter and I have these in stock, as well as the standard PO8s. I also have some of these milled German made repro Navy rear links, unblued @$400 each. Lugerdoc
