Are These Unit Marks?

These marks are on my P-08. Are they unit marks?

Thanks,
Robert

No. They are arsenal and acceptance stamps. Unit stamps are usually located on the grip frame of the pistol, primarily the front strap.

Slice I am relatively new to lugers , But the marks you pictured are not unit marks they are proof marks. I am sure the wealth of knowledge on this forum can elaborate much more than I can on what the marks actually mean

Hi Robert,

Welcome to the forum.

These are unit marks. The first three in the top photo are Reichswehr 1919-1933. The bottom one in the top photo is a Navy property number, found only on Reichsmarine or Kriegsmarine Navy Lugers.

The bottom two photos are Imperial Army WWI unit marks. They will be found on 1908 1st Issue-1917 Lugers, and are very rare on 1918 dated Lugers.

Thanks!!

All,

Thank you for your prompt replies! I am sure I will enjoy the forum, particularly researching my own P-08 which was given to me by my late Father. It is marked 1913 Erfurt and all parts I have seen have the matching serial number. Finish is good on it. Unfortunately, I do not have the holster. I treasure it far beyone its monetary value I am sure. I have field stripped, cleaned and put preservative oil on it and all parts look in fabulous shape. I confess I have actually even fired 15 or 20 rounds and it cycles as well as my Kimber 1911.

My father fought in the Pacific theater and actually traded a relic he brought back from the Pacific to a soldier from the ETO for this P-08. I hope to actually somehow find some facts on it from this forum.

Best regards,
Robert
