1939 luger

i have a 1939 luger that my grandfathers twin brother got in wwII.I need info on it .Its ser.#is 1410. It also has #42 on top. It also has 3 birds stamped on side.2 birds have #63 under them. I think it means it was issuded to a SS officer. need any feedback I could get. thanks

Hi Steve, welcome to the Luger Forum!

Your Luger was made in 1939 as the chamber mark indicates, by Mauser which the Code "42" indicates. Your pistol has a suffix letter located on the front of the frame below the number "1410". If you tell me what the suffix letter is, I can approximate the month it was made.

The two eagle over 63 are inspection marks and the third eagle over swastika is a firing proof mark. These marks DO NOT mean and connection to a SS Group.

I thought all of your parents parents brothers/sisters were your grandparents...No?

I never had any, so it's just a WAG...(I mean, they all passed on before I was born)...

Would he be a grandfather once removed???

Anyway...stevefxstc - Can you post some pics??? Is it in good condition???

Thanks for replys. The suffix letter is w. I will try to get photos when my wife can help with downloading them.To the others thanks for the lesson on family tree. And yes the gun is in great shape. I got it from my uncle after my grandpa passed away.I had heard of this gun but never got to see it. so I asked about it. My uncle told me that him and my cousin did not have the love for guns as myself. he said if I did not let it windup in a pawnshop I could have it.It great goes with my model 98 mauser that is chambered in 7.62x51.Anymore info would be great.
