cdg 4 holster
 

Hello all-

I purchased a 1920 commercial luger with "mismatched" holster and tool, thinking I'd just keep the gun and sell the other. However, the holster looked pretty nice except the front strap had been poorly matched, stitched and replaced and the knot on the pullup strap had broken off. I took it to my local leather joint and the fellow used an old belt to make a replacement strap and knot. The match is pretty remarkable, even down to the tooling marks that run along the edge and hand stitching. $50 for the repairs. In any event, the only marks on the holster are "cdg" with the single number "4" beneath it. No "P08" or other inspection marks. The guy at the gunshop (where I had the items shipped to me) thought it was pretty rare but didn't make any other comments on it. He also said he'd never seen a tool with the "SA" markings, but had seen them in books. Does anyone know about this type of holster? What is it's value? How about the tool? Thanks a bunch. Snider, The cdg 4 is a relatively late holster and as such is scarce if not rare. As far as I know this date is for 1944.


Your shoe guy did an above average repair on the strap. I see shoe repairmen butcher holsters usually. Stick them under a fast sewing machine and punch a million new holes using tiney synthetic thread. You got lucky.
I take it you glued on the lifting strap knot?

Jerry - This actually wasn't a shoe repair place, but a leather works and repair - "The Last Genuine Leather Shoppe" or some such. I think he took a small bit of leather and put a stitch through the pull up strap to hold the pieces together and then somehow glued the "simu-knot" - but it looks pretty good. I also provided him with my 1941 fuq-code holster so he had a template to work from. I like the bright color of this one better (the fuq is very dark brown). Anyhow, any idea of the value of this one? Again I appreciate your time and expertise.

Jerry is right (as usual) about the date. This is a very nice holster IMHO. The SA marked tool is from Finland.

Snider..Value..This holster is relatively rare but the condition is a tad less than desirable. It is also a late holster so a buyer who wants it to match to a late pistol..since there aren't many of those... your buyer pool is somewhat restricted.
I hesitate to place a value on it..the only real way to know is to offer it on auction.
Holsters are still strong on the market and this one has a chance of doing well..
