Question about my 1939 42 Luger
Gents, I just bought a 1939 code 42 Luger. There is a 3-digit serial #, with what it looks like a slanted "p" on the barrel.
Other then being made in app. 81,000, or so I was told, is there any significance to the low serial #? maybe an approximate worth? many thanks! :burnout: some pics.. http://i39.tinypic.com/2qv89cp.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/2gt96qb.jpg http://i39.tinypic.com/53r711.jpg |
Is the letter P similar to what is shown here?http://www.lugerforum.com/lugermarki...xes/suffix.jpg
That's probably the serial suffx. |
1939 Luger
Thank you for your response! Sorry, was out for a while.
The "suffiX" appears to be letter "S". I understand the Lugers were made in series of 10,000? And the 42 code, started from letter "R" . Given that mine is "S", with a number of 950, is there any significant collector value to that, being a low number, in the early production? Thank you. more pix below.. http://i44.tinypic.com/2yueutf.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/205qfpv.jpg |
You ask if there is a significant collector value due to the low serial number, in your case I don't think so. Three digit serial is not that uncommon. I have two Lugers with single digit serial, guess I paid about 10% more for those.. it's neat, but not much more than that.
It's a very nice Luger you bought, congrats with it! |
Thank you very much for your feedback!
