1910 dwm military
 

I got this istol yesterday from the so of a ww2 vet. I am kind of curious about a few things. how often do you see a complete ww1 rig taken off of a ww2 soldier the holster is even ww1 dated 1916 and it also has the acceptance stamps under the flaps. Can anyone tell me the value of this pistol and tell me what unit the strap markings reprsent. This is an extremely nice pistol the bluing is 95% i would say. All numbers match even the firing pin is numbered.

Your 1910 DWM is marked to the 8th Dragoon Regiment 1st Squadron weapon #4 Cavalry marked Lugers are very popular among unit mark collectors. And are somewhat scarce.

It was very common for Imperial Lugers to be reissued in WWII. Just as many 1911's were reissued to U.S. troops.

That's a nice rig. Without seeing it first hand I would estimate the value at $2000 - $2500.

No the mag is the only thing that does not match but it is the correct period type of magazine

The 8th Dragoon Regiment was part of the 11th Infantry Div.

It suffered very heavy losses due to being in the thick of battle continuously. It was haunted with dessertions and the troops mutinied.

In 1918, due to a shortage of man power and horses. The 8th Dragoons were transfered to the Guard Cavalry Div. A Cavalry Div.in name only, as they were deployed and fought as dismounted Infantry.

The magazine isnt the correct type for this pistol. But it is a wood bottom nickel tube magazine. There is green patina all over it. Here are a few pics

Your mag was made by Erfurt.

Wayne, with all due respect, the "correct" magazine bottom for a 1910 would have LARGE numbers running perpendicular to the holding knobs, much like Navy luger mags. The numbers changed to the smaller parallel numbers later, perhaps in 1912. Your 1910 rig is a treasure to be sure. I would hold on to it as its value will increase faster than the economy will recover.

Dr I knew the magazine was incorrect and from reading on here i did learn that the proper mag for my pistol had the numbers running longways on the bottom. I believe I am going to hang on to this pistol I am learning that this pistol in this condition isnt too common.

I have to tell you I have been mainly a german helmet and headgear guy but I think I am getting the luger bug. I have 4 now and one of them is a 1902 ae fat barrel I think I have a good base to have a respectable luger collection

If anyone has need for an Ehrfurt mag I will trade this one for a mag for a 1910 (even if the numbers are off)
