Need help on 1916 DWM
First of all I am new here. It's a great informative site. I am looking at buying my first luger. The gun is marked 1916. It has the DWM stamp on top. #85 is marked on all parts. From what the owner said the gun has the letter "B" with an imperial crown on top, "S" with an imperial crown, "S" with an imperial crown and an eagle with an imperial crown. These markings are on the side of the gun. Finish is in good shape. He said the gun was used in WWI and WWII. The magazine with the gun is a WW2 vintage mag. It also has a very old brown leather holster. I don't have any pics as of yet but he wants around 2k. I hope you guys can give me some info on it.
thanks |
Eddie, unless in really nice shape, 2K is a lot of money for a 1916 without a matching magazine.....

Ed is right on the money..For 2 grand that would have to be one heckava nice Luger Pistola!
If you can post some photo's perhaps we could help a little. Jerry Burney |
I will try and post some pics later

By the way, he packed it down with grease.

perhaps its the lighting, but that side plate looks fairly rough. I would also be leery of all that grease, which could be concealing surface imperfections.
The price is on the high side. If you really want it I would not purchase this gun without a clear three day inspection period. |
Eddie, The pictures are great but not enough to tell the story. Herr Alanint is correct..the sideplate looks too rough for my liking.
Price is too high and the photo's don't say buy me.... But hey..it's your two grand. Jerry Burney |
What do you think is a fair price on it?

What do you think is a fair price on it?
Eddie, If all you have for photo's are these it's impossible to say. I doubt that the pistol has been dismantled to see if the internal parts match with all that grease. To accurately determine a price estimate it would be necessary to thouroghly inspect the pistol. Buying a pistol from a seller who knows so little as to gob grease all over it is questionable. Is the guy long distance? You need a LOT more information before laying out ANY money in my opinion. Could end up being a $600-700 shooter. Could be worth $1500. It's a guessing game right now. One thing I am pretty certain of from what I see..it's not near 2 grand. Jerry Burney |
thanks for the info. He is local.
