How to dissemble Browning FN 1900
 

I have unscrewed the two screws located in the rear sight area.. everything still seems stuck.

Any ideas on how to dissemble it without the use of sledgehammer will be appreciated.

Steinar, It sounds as though you forgot to uncock the FP before trying to remove the slide. I you need copies of detail stripping procedure, I can include with your next order. TH

I tried to unscrew with a copper driver that I made. The blade was damaged but the screw stuck there like welded. Then, I gave up. It has never been disassembled before, I don't want to damage the screw head. Too many 1900s have marred screw head.

The latest Guns & Ammo here in the US, (the one with the new Ruger LCR revolver on the cover) has a detailed explanation on stripping the Browning 1900

I will try cocking it first, as Tom suggested. If it's still stuck in one piece, I will follow alanint's advice about Gun's and Ammo (I can actually purchase it in my local store here in norway also)
The pistol is pretty beaten up and worn out all over.. but the screws are actually not that bad:)

Edit; :D I was so focused on removing the rear sight part backwards, I didn’t think of removing slide forwards while cocked! So easy that I'm a bit embarrassed;)

Remove mag and ensure the pistol is empty. Un-**** the striker, remove the screws mentioned, slide should come off forward from the breech assembly.

May be a tight fit. Might have to bump the slide forward a bit with a soft hammer, it won't just pop apart.

The grips have retaining plates inside to keep the grips attached, just loosen the screws and rotate the plates to remove the grips.

Not all that much to a FN Browning 1900, but it is hard to see the Browning influence alongside other Browning designed pistols.

Push the magazine catch forward and remove the magazine.

Release the safety.

Draw the slide fully to the rear and check to see the chamber is empty.

Release the slide and pull the trigger

Unscrew and remove the breechblock screws.

Move the slide forward off the frame.

Lift the forward end of the recoil spring until it snaps free of the frame.

Withdraw the breechblock to the rear.

Supposedly, this is sufficient disassembly for normal cleaning.

I had it in my mind that with the two screws removed, the breechblock could come out to the rear. Didn't think of removing the slide forward (don't ask me why it didn't cross my mind!)
Well, I got it apart and it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a lifetime.. Never seen that much filth in a gun before!
