New acquisition, BYF 42 date rig
I just bought a BYF marked, 42 date P-08, apparently original finish (salt blue), un-numbered black plastic grips, etc. Black Widow I presume, matching #6305 c. It came with 2 numbered but mis-matched alum. base mags., holster, etc.
Several questions: My reference materials show that this one should have come with un-numbered black base magazines marked FXO and P.08. Do you agree with that? And if so, is there a suggested source for these (LugerDoc perhaps?), and what is the short term used to describe these mags? FXO? I also will need a correct loading tool. Any special marks required to make one correct for this model? Thank you for your help. I would take pictures but it looks about like any other dark Luger. DJU |
"Like any other dark Luger"???? They all have some sort of charm and distinction. I think I have more pictures of my collection in my planner than I have of my kids.
What are the numbers on the magazines? You may be able to trade for black bottoms to match the grips. Jerry |

Mauser almost ceased the numbering of Luger magazines at the end of the - u - block of the 41-byf production. From this point the normal was a fxo-SE-37-PO8 (rightside up P 08) marked magazine body. The magazines might have a black bakalite bottom or a concave pinned aluminum bottom. Normally, they were not numbered. However, "WaAmt" USA has become involved and many are now numbered. Be very careful of any 41 or 42 byf Luger beyond the - U - letter suffix with matching magazines. Some were numbered, you would have to have a Luger magazine expert in your pocket along with your glass to recognize the bad ones. Just life in the fast lane. Don |
David, You should have recieved the correct BPB/FXO mag for your 42BYF. The correct tool for this era would be one marked with an E/135. Sorry but I"m sold out of those. Since they only used that marking for about a year and a half, these mag loading tools are on the expensive side. TH
