Help w/ number stamp?
1 Attachment(s)
Hello, all.....
I'm considering buying this BYF 41, but I'd like to be sure that the numbers are not force-matched. Is it unusual for a part to have a different number font, like this one has, on the safety? Thanks, Bob. |
I believe that the number on the safety bar is "suspect"... because the number "1" has a lower serif, but the rest of the 1's don't... Make sure the gun is priced accordingly... before you buy it. It will still make a great shooter, because you can't get a better "working" gun than a Mauser.

The safety also has an "open topped" number 4, which makes it doubly suspect......

It would depend on the time of year. It maybe in a transition between fonts. I have a matching byf 41 which has all lower serif numbers.
In Jan Stills "Third Reich Lugers" on page 85 it shows a byf 41 # 4801 which has the same type of lower serif "1' as the pistol you are asking about. This pistol also has the trigger bar with a lower serif "1" which is different from the frame and other parts. I do not see this as being a non matching gun. If all other parts match then chances are this is a good luger. Jerryhttp://i278.photobucket.com/albums/k...P08bfy4104.jpg |
Look under New Collectors 1/23/09 "Mauser 3's" for a small discussion on Mauser fonts. This luger could well be correct. Hopefully our Mauser experts will respond. Bill

Did the move to lower serif "1"s correspond with a move to "open top" "4"s?
