1936 Mauser with no strawing
 

Hi Guys:

Its me again.

Hey, Did any of the 1936 S/42 Mausers have bluing without the strawing? I'm in touch with one that has a numbers match tool, two numbered mags that match and a brown holster that numbers match. No apparent strawing. The number is 5426 K. What's she apt to be worth?

Jack, the chances of an all blue 1936 Military Mauser is so small I can't even write that small. I would say zero!!

I would guess it has been reblued and therefore classed as a "shooter". Therefore, the price range would be $500 to $800, depending on the condition of the pistol.

Have a really close look at all those matching numbers, as well.
It is rare for somebody to reblue an all-matching rig. Chances are they have been forced.

The numbers look clear, proper & legit. The bluing doesn't show signs of being re-done. The big problem is no strawing on any of the right parts that can be seen. However, I purchased an old one a while back and strawing couldn't be seen until 70 or 80 years of oxidation & grime was removed. I can see the take down pin (on the right hand side) on the subject gun and it looks as blue as anything.

It would be nice to know for sure about an all blue 1936 Mauser. Any other opinions???

Lugers were not all blue until partway through the 1937 production. If there is such a thing I havn't seen one in 45+ years of collecting. I'm afraid this is the only answer you will get from collectors. Bill

I have to concur with the opinions expressed above... and I have been studying them for 50+ years.

The changeover from straw to blued small parts has been very well documented by advanced collectors to have taken place during 1937 due to wartime shortcuts... if your 1936 Luger has all blued parts, the chances that it left the factory that way are extremely slim to zero. Your first answer above, is from Frank M. who I personally consider to be a foremost authority on Mauser Luger production.

Description of matching mags, tool and holster sounds like a police rig. Does it have a sear safety? Can you post photos?

The holster is brown if that makes any difference. If it's a police rig would it be normal to be all blued and no strawing? What would the value be as compared to the $ 800 as mentioned above?

Hi,

There are no factory originall all blued 1936 Mausers, neither Police, nor military, nor otherwise. The 1937 changeover was an attempt to cut costs. Salt dip blue is quicker and cheaper to do. I believe the $800 is a good guideline.

The holster really doesn't play a role here.
