Ever see this sight notch before?
 

1938 chamber/S42 toggle marked rebuild,supposedly out of a bunch found in storage in Norway years back,came from an Importer in southern Ohio,bought it as a shooter,don't remember exact price,around $230 or so,any way look at the notch in rear sight,don't know who,why or where fores of who did it but sure helps getting a sight picture.

Internals are still like brand new,always replace mags/grips with after market mags/grips in my shooters(original grips look pretty much same condition as these after market ones.

A friend of mine uses his byf Luger for action shooting has modified his rear sight just like yours.

My guess is it has a modified finnish toggle. The Finns replaced the 7.65 barrels on theirs with 9mm Tikka manufactured barrels and the front sights had a square profile front sight so they notched the rears to match.

You mention this is a 'norwegian' luger, I have seen quite many of such modified Lugers 'over here' .

But I don't think it has been done in large scale by our military armourers..
Probably something done by solidiers/officers and target shooters for various reason.

We might just as well face it.. the rear sight on a standard 10cm luger is not excatly ideal. But if they should make the rear sight higher and more divided from the toggle, the front sight would have to be higher and end up something like on a C96. It's an attempt to compensate for this I think.

Judging by the stamps,etc: it appears to be all German manf., partsjust mis-matched parts,I've probably had 30/35 lugers over the years,not counting the many P-38's,C-96's,BHP's and so on,I'm over 76 with Emphesema,I can't take any of that stuff with me,kids(have 5) are getting them now to avoid any hassle later.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, emphesema seems to be a tough battle.. Wish you all the best copeing with it.

I can't pass any of my firearms down to the next generation, unless they achieve licence for ownership. Which is unlikely.. they would need an interest to go trough something like that.
The Lugers is not the worst, that would be my grandfather's Krag J�¸rgensen rifle.

The rounded sight notch is a common Swiss modification.
