1900 with three non-matching parts
 

I have a 1900 "test" group luger. Serial number XX49 except the take-down pin, trigger and grips have been repaced. All three have matching number 82 on them. All others bear the 49 number. The gun is a beauty with say 90 % bluing and 80 % strawing. No abuse, a little wear on a corner or two from holster insertions, etc. Bore is great, grips are super. Gun was put away and well maintanied for 60 years or more. Is it a keeper or a throw back? What's she apt to be worth?

The only two XX49 Test Lugers I have in the data base are 6249 and 7049. Any chance your Luger is one of those? If it isn't, I would really appreciate knowing the full serial number so that I can add it to the data. It certainly sounds like a keeper, but if you want to throw it away, I'll take it!:)
U.S. Test Trial Lugers are frequently mis-matched. Photos would help in evaluating it and determining if the replaced parts are vintage 1900.

Good looking gun. Hard to tell from the glare and the size of the photo, but it looks like the takedown is numbered on the right round end...correct?

That's right. The trigger and grips have the same number.

So how many are in your database? Any patterns of the various numbers and where they went and where they seem to appear from? Mine came from the family of a Penna. WWII vet. They don't know how he obtained it. What seems to be the benefit of collecting the numbers? What is one like this worth? The holster is supposed to be on the way to me. If its original I'd be interested in knowing what its worth. Might end up selling them.

I am not sure why you have not gotten a direct answer, but I see you've asked the value 3 or 4 times.

It looks VERY nice, I think too nice for a 100 year old gun.

The Test Lugers run in the 6100-7100 serial number range (that is what is commonly said); I looked it up- and it is within the Bannerman numbers, which is very nice.

Value depends; if "restored" it is worth around $1,800 and if original and in this shape $2800 or so.

If the holster is a true test holster it is worth $1500-$2000, however there have been reproductions for years and if so, only worth about $75. It could also be just a luger holster or a civilian commercial one and that would not be worth a ton of money.

Whether restored or not, it is a piece of history and one many collectors would like to own.

I just looked up in "Central Power Pistols", 6849 is Bannerman. It's an official TE. Value, I don't know. Ron and Ed are experts.
