Why do some barrel's have the serial number and some don't.

Hello forum members, I just purchased one Luger long distance so I have no pictures to post other then what the owner sent me and they are bad. Of course I paid $750 for it and really just wanted a shooter so as long as it fits that bill I guess I did OK. It is according the pictures an all matching except the clip number 1916 DWM that has military proofs on the receiver. It shows no import marks from the pictures but I did notice the barrel was serial number stamped with the four digit number and lower case d that matched the receiver. But several I have seen on gunbroker and other sites do not have the barrel stamped with the serial number. So my question is were some stamped and some not stamped?

Thanks in advance.

A good rule of thumb. If the barrel doesn't have the SN, it's a replacement, and not original to the gun. A lot of dealers will try to pass them off as "reworked".

Original "reworked" Lugers have all matching parts. The only exception would be an armorer's replacement barrel which would have the armorer's Mauser code "42" stamped on the barrel.
