Changed out the toggle on my 1920 Commercial Luger from dwm

to erfurt crown. put a nice pair of medium light brown walnut grips on her. Hugh is going to make this a nice 30 Luger baby for me. Getting her all ready for the trip to Phoenix on Friday! I will hand deliver to him for the work! I want to see if he can copy the hardshell holsters and make a smaller one to fit this baby! ted

Bill, I will reduce the length of the grip frame by 1/2" and shorten the bbl to 2" to 3", whatever length Ted wants.

3and 1/4" just like Georg's of course. And he has to do the same thing to the grips and magazine. ted

Ted, I am bringing baby 1 and the beginnings of baby 2 for "show & tell", so will be able to bring yours back with me. Are those the grips you want cut down for it? Also, I would suggest a repro mag rather than cutting down an original one.

I would call this a â??Mini Lugerâ?� in contrast to Georg Luger�´s â??Baby Lugerâ?�. After a hundred years of development, it is now time to re-produce this early Luger prototype. A Mini Luger was made by DWM in the 1920s in 9mm short and 7.65 Browning under the supervision of August Weiss and was often called a â??Baby Modelâ?�. Ninety years ago, Georg Luger also had a compact, custom made Parabellum pistol for his personal use.


The middle part of the grip frame was shortened on these pistols and a parallel segment was removed. Both parts were then silver soldered back together. The magazine contained seven rounds. The length of the barrel was 80 mm (3 1/4 inches) and the wooden grips for this model were custom made.


After the War, the pistol was taken to the United States. Later, Georg Luger jun. identified it as his father�´s personal weapon.


The legendary U.S. gunsmith John Martz also developed a special, shortened version of the Luger with a 2 inch barrel and a shortened grip for seven rounds as well as a .45 ACP caliber Luger and a Luger carbine.


If it were possible to further shorten the grip to take only six rounds, the general impression would have been more compact and more attractive.


The present pistol looks neat and compact and creates the impression that not just the barrel and the frame are smaller, but that the receiver has been shortened as well. This was the result of a lucky coincidence in that the stock lug provided the necessary thickness so that shaft for the shortened recoil spring could be milled further into the frame.


Although we were at first apprehensive, hardly any changes were necessary for the prototype to function perfectly (approximately four hundred rounds have been fired). The enclosed target group shows that the Mini Luger is in no way lacking in comparison with the full-scale model.


The pistol has been proof-fired by the official German authorities. Lapua 320 m/s ammunition is recommended.

Werle wrote yesterday to let me know that the first production model has been sent to the German press for testing. Mine (the second) should get here next week.He also sent a series of pictures. It certainly is a good looking gun! Patrick

Patrick, I only refer to Georg's as a "Baby" because that is what the owner calls it (see attached picture) Kenyon calls it a "Seven shot prototype" You are right a true baby Luger is much smaller than this one and the main difference is the size of the frame and the chambering of a true baby is 32 ACP or 380 ACP. Ted

9 mm - price in Marks cannot be quoted for reasons of discretion (and I also asked him to fit it with different sights etc.). Patrick

Werle has been on the phone. The price of his Mini Luger in Germany is 2.495 Marks. What that is in U.S. dollars, I just don�´t know ( I still haven�´t been able to work out the time difference). Werle told me that posting charges would be added to the price BUT 16% sales tax would reduce the above price. He thinks that there might be a legal problem importing a foreign made pocket-size firearm into the United States and advises anyone interested in doing so to look into the problem. Patrick
