PLEASE help a NEWB with his LUGER..
2 Attachment(s)
While new to Lugers I am not new to firearms or forums, but not knowing exactly what I have I'm hoping this was the best place to start..
A little while back I was offered a LUGER by a friend.. The pistol has been kicking around from one drawer to another and house to house for about 50 years and was originally owned by his grandfather.. The Grandfather who at one time is said to have owned a LARGE Wooden Barrel Plum FULL of Lugers... Anyway what I am sure of is that it is a Mix of parts and will be a SHOOTER Luger only.. Even so it is in pretty good shape and should fill that roll quite nicely.. Here is what I have details are as follows: LUGER is a DWM & Military with a barrel date of 1936 Ser # on the Frame is: 1571 Ser # on Barrel, & Slide is 4772 All toggle and most small parts are Numbered 71 With the exception of one or two slide assy parts with the # 72 Of course it would seem the parts numbered 71 match the Frame, and 72 the Slide and Barrel.. Not completly matching but only two sets of numbers from what I can tell?? I know mismatch is mismatch and I have no issues with that at all.. Pistol appears to be Military & Commercial as it has the Date stamp on the barrel as well as some stamps on Barrel, slide, and frame.. Bore is decent, but does have some shallow pitting, thinking more form poor storage than anything else and should clean up pretty nice with a few rounds down the tube.. I have disassembled the pistol, cleaned it and added some MUCH needed OIL.. Toggle Function is perfect and butter smooth, stricker assy complete, grips are the usual Wood panels.. Now the BAD... MAG is LONG gone so I will need help with that, price and availability for original Mags MUST be considered I understand that, but I hope to find a couple decent mags wthout breaking the bank??.. Also the Trigger, trigger spring and Sideplate are missing.. Using THIS breakdown I am missing Part # 35, 36, 37, 38, & 39 http://www.sarcoinc.com/lgr.html#breakdown I sure would appreciate any assistance you gents could offer helping me understand EXACTLY what I have as well as helping me complete the pistol.. Always wanted a Luger but with the prices they have reached owning a Nice Collector Luger is not in the cards since all I ever wanted was a Decent pistol to take to the range now and then.. Here are a Couple PICS, and for those intersted I have exactly $108.00 in this pistol to date.. Luger purchased for $100.00, and ONE Commercial mag bought for a whopping $8.00 thinking IF it does not function I am only out $8.00.. :p TIA for Any and ALL help you can offer.. |
For that price you CAN'T go wrong.
I would suggest you contact Tom Heller (lugerdoc) for your parts needs. Go original as much as possible. You might just consider sending the whole thing to him to find, install, and fit your parts to ensure functioning. enjoy. |
Welcome to the forum. You might try here for your mag needs: http://www.cdnninvestments.com/lugermags.html

Don't have any of the others parts you need that I want to part with, but for WW2 era mags, lugerdoc usually has some. I have 4 or 5 WW2 era ones I am selling. Nice and not so nice ;)
BTW, DWM did not make lugers in 1936, only Mauser did. ed weimar_lugers@verizon.net |
Mike if your feeling bad, I'm willing to double your money.....welcome to LF :)
