new guy please take pity

hi all am i right in saying that the take down lever should not be able to be rotated upwards into the locked position with a sripped lower frame , if so what stops it and what allows its upward movement once the reciever is in place . thanks all

Bergwerk,

No that is incorrect. The locking lever can certainly be rotated to both open and closed positions with the frame stripped. There is a small wire spring under it that retains it in each position by riding in a groove on the bottom of the shaft... You must overcome the resistance of the spring in this groove in order to move it.

If you cannot rotate the lever to the closed position with the upper assembly off of the grip frame, then you may have partially moved the lever shaft from right to left and the locking block on the shaft may be in the insertion hole for the lever thus preventing movement.

locking lever grooves

i know its asking a lot but would anyone have a good pic of these grooves as that may be my problem , on my lever i have a defined groove undernreth the locating slot part which runs almost the full length of the shaft ,but the second groove is smaller and in the centre area of the shaft . is that right ?
