Transition from Code 42 to byf
Dear Experts,
I read somewhere a while ago that the changeover from Code 42 to byf on Mauser toggles occurred more or less on January 1, 1941, while the addition of P-08 to the left side of the frame did not happen until some time in February 1941, and that it is therefore possible that the very early byf frames do not have P-08 on them. Does this sound plausible? Thanks, Jeff |
Jeff, the addition of "P.08" on the frame began on January 1, 1941, but the code change from "42" to "byf" occurred about February 1, 1941 . Mauser was allowed to use frames left over from the 1940 production, that weren't marked with "P.08". So a few 41 Code 42 Lugers didn't have the "P.08" Frames.
Hope this helps! |
This is really helpful. THanks!!

Hi again Frank
So just to clarify, is it possible that an early 41 byf might not have "P-08" on the frame? Thanks, Jeff |
Jeff, to the best of my knowledge all 41 byf Lugers have "P.08" frames. :)
