If you had a choice..... What original P.08 Luger parts would you like to see reproduced??? :jumper:... maybe on a scale of 1 to 10... OK, I'm curious. What parts are not readily available? I haven't needed much yet, but it was all available. What parts can't be easily found, as originals or repros?

Dont know about "reproduced", but what about "made from scratch"? A rear toggle with an adjustable target sight would be a fun thing for the marksmen in our group. Then we could go for an adjustable match trigger, thumbrest grips, Marbles type beaded front sight...somebody please stop me, I'm out of control...

You and I had long discussions once at your house and by email about the shortage of 9mm Navy (6") barrels with the appropriate higher front sight base... The availability of quality parts has not changed in the last few years...They are as scarce as fish fingernails.

GT..This is an interesting question that could be expanded on some. Like reproduction holsters..there is not much profit there. The market is saturated with cheap ones.
One must concentrate on the rare to have any interest or profit.
Like john says..there are no quality 6" barrels..
There is a short list of rare original parts..not just Luger parts.
One I have found in short supply is an Artillery stock iron spring. They are just impossible to find. Most people don't even know what they look like...Or that a stock iron even HAS a spring! That's another subject..

Anyway..there are rare and seldom found QUALITY parts. The main trouble is this..lets say you were able to produce a really high quality part like an Artillery stock iron spring. The time and effort to do it would be tremendous! How many would you sell over the rest of your life? Likely not enough to make such an effort worthwhile.
When you need a part like this you really need it though...

I'd vote for model 1900 recoil tang "springs".

The "Tang spring" project is something I have researched and is on a back burner for me... but I intend to find a way to make them. Profitable or not, somebody has to make them! :)

I guess breach blocks would be my first but high quality pins slightly over sized would be nice too.

Many shooter lugers are getting worn out and this would give years of life back to them by reducing the pounding a loose action causes.

You could sale the reamers also that way everyone is happy with the results with few returns.

I'm getting bolder all the time. :jumper: As a matter of fact, great to have all of you guys in my corner ... keep on coming with the suggestions..everyone has a pet part they need... Ok Gerry... here is my last great idea... I have been saving this one for myself...

I know it will take forever for me to be able to do this... but you take the idea and run with it...

Start making reproduction .22 conversion kits... the parts seem pretty straightforward. They shouldn't require a whole lot of heat treating if you are using good steel, and the springs are simple... The only difficult piece would be the magazines, but you already have much expertise in that area...and I know you would produce a quality magazine.

In fact, I would create repro magazines first... sell a few and use the money to fund the rest of the project. Those mags are SCARCE...

If I was already retired (and who knows when that will be possible) I would already be doing this with CNC machining... Make them out of stainless (and aluminum where feasible) so they can't be resold boosted as originals... you should be able to sell a boatload of them to all the new and old Luger enthusiasts!

Good question. The normal 'wear and tear' parts with the ejector spring as number 1, as it is the part that is most likely to break during use. Most modern repros are pretty bad.

My top 5:
-Ejector.
-Extractor.
-sear bar leaf spring.
-side plates with functional trigger lever.
-main leaf spring for 1900 models.

I can hook you up with a construction drawing for the M1900 leaf spring if needed.

I almost forgot an important one:

The artillery luger front sight bits (there is a little spring in there as well). The LP08 front sights are notched and the first notches are usually worn off, causing the sight to jump forward at recoil.

Great Idea John, it certainly has merit... I will contact you further on this.. Vlim, I would love the print of the 1900 mainspring... , and I also appreciate the list of desired items... If i commit to making a part, I usually make / have a minimum of 100, and a max of 1000, the reason is, fixtures and tooling are the same for 1 quality part, as they are for a 1000... but, making 1000 parts by hand is like a life sentence!!! :jumper: If i do make some of the above mentioned items, they will be my best effort, either in the prints i submit, or the hand work i do... to arrive at a quality replacement part...
