Mitchell's Mauser Lugers

Why are the P08 Lugers on Mitchell's Mauser website so expensive ($4500). I have been watching the prices of Lugers recently, as I am looking at purchasing a Mauser P08, probably an S/42, and have noticed that the collector Lugers are usually around $3000 for a very nice firearm. What makes the Mitchell's Mauser Lugers different that they are so expensive?

Thanks

Welcome to the Lugerforum. These guns are CREATED for the new collector who doesn't know anything about collecting, so they don't know they are overpaying to own a "Luger"....They are all shooter class guns, not collectibles. They have all been refinished. Sometimes they add markings and decorations that further detract from their authenticity... only if you have money to burn, should you purchase one of these rehab Lugers...

They do fit them into nice presentation cases, and make them LOOK like they are collectibles, but I wouldn't own one because the refinish brings their value DOWN, not up.

They do the same with Mauser rifles, bogus markings and finishes. Then they call them rare original pieces! I'm not a lawyer, but that sure sounds like FRAUD to me.

Alright. I had suspected that, but wasn't quite sure since they did not state that on their website. I am really interested in purchasing a nice "collector" Luger as well as a "shooter" within the next year. I currently own a DWM Commercial Luger in nice condition, all origional. I'll be posting pictures of it as well as the history behind it. It has been in my family since WWI. It has a very interesting history

Absolutely do not buy one of the Mitchell's Mausers Lugers. That company sells nothing but "pimped out" shooters for prices that are higher than originals.

There are nice collectable lugers for less than $1500 right here on the forum; I feel sorry for folks who got suckered into buying these "collectable" lugers; as they are not.

I think, many, many people are seduced by a pretty gun, instead of one that is should be, a 70-100 year old piece of history...

WehrmachtP08,

I just posted this photo in another topic, but thought it would be enjoyed here as well.

Like you, I almost got suckered into buying a Mitchel "make over," but luckily, took heed of the members on this forum and saved my money.

Now I have two pistols, one a shooter and the other a low end collector (both purchased from members of this forum).

If you really want to flush your money down the toilet, take my advice and buy one of these! Just let me know when you're going to go on TV with the Antiques Road Show.... I need a good laugh....

Happy collecting,

Dave in TN.

Oh, now that is just gorgeous! It can go in the safe right next to the gold-plated Desert Eagle "fif-tay".

And not even a bleedin' stock with that one....

It's like putting fresh make-up on the Mona Lisa and calling it added value.

The real problem is, IMHO, for looking, it does not have much to look at, for shooting, I doubt it shoots well, for price, well, there are tons of collectors accumulating CAI guns, at least those are reasonably priced.... this one.... where is its core value?

Hi:

I doubt if any serious collector would buy a Luger from them.

"Edition Limit - Only 25"
"Origin: Germany, 1914-1918"

These two bits of descriptive info when placed together (in the ad shown above for the "Diamond Eagle") are so misleading that they should qualify for fraud.
