Stamp on Luger Cleaning rod with Oiler
 

Hi,

Could anyone identify the markings found on a 4 inch luger cleaning rod with oiler. The markings or stamps are located approx 1 inch down from the oiler to the side of the brass rod
as follows: 74385 j (under a) crown

I question the authenticity of this rod. Regardless of the markings...The rod is made way different from what it should be.
This TYPE of rod was commercial and should not have a military acceptance.

The jag (threaded portion on the end) also does not look authentic. Looks like modern threads instead of the "thick" spiral that is evident on cleaning rods of this type.

Sorry for the bad news. Hope you didn't pay too much for it. It is still functional, just not believed to be authentic.
