unit mark question
Dear experts
Would anyone know to which unit the marking "R.S.R.M.G12" on the front grip strap refers? Thanks, Jeff |
What is the date on the pistol? Are all the letters block form or is any scriptic?
|
Jeff, any pictures, further information, etc?
"Assume" it is on a luger.... ed |
Sorry to take so long to reply! With a magnifying glass, the inscription looks a bit different:
R.5.R.M.G. 12, seemingly all block capitals. This is on wht apparently is a 1909 First Military Issue with all matching parts, but reblued, serial 30xx a Thanks in advance for your insights. Jeff |
Jeff, your serial number for an '08 first military falls close enough to a bunch of recorded Bavarian '08's for me to guess that your actual marking may be "B.5.R.M.G.12". That would be Bavarian 5th Infantry Regiment, machine gun company, weapon 12. Mr. Jeff Noll reports '08 serial number 9537 as being marked "B.5.R.M.G.47.".
Photos and the actual serial number would be appreciated. |
The actual serial is 3019a. I will try to upload 3 photos now.

Jeff,
Nice gun (I like '08s, and First Issues in particular). It would appear that it has not been modified to add the holdopen, which is typical of Bavarian Lugers. So I suspect that George has called it correctly and the first letter is a "B". |
Yes, you are correct, there is no hold open.
Thanks to all of you for your help! Jeff |
