Registering Gun

Hello to All:

I am New to the Luger, I know its History from Reading and it is a Fine Pistol, My question: I am going to buy one soon and in Michigan when you register a Gun they ask or it is on your application , 1 Make: I assume it would be just (Luger) or is it German Luger, and then the Model, I see no where on the Luger where it states Model, what would you put down. The rest is easy Shot, Type and caliber.

or Simson or Krieghoff

Go by what it states on the toggle, if the toggle is blank, then its DWM

If it is a 4 inch, then most likely a model 1908; however, could be a 1906 0r 1900 model; if 6 inch a navy, if 8 inch an artillery.

Look at the gun, ask questions here and we can help.

Pistols in Michigan

Awe c'on - we're talking about the government here - so there HAS to be instructions, and there are.

Michigan uses NCIC gun data codes,
http://www.michigan.gov/documents/NC...5_164370_7.pdf

The clerks used to make many mistakes, so there is even an identification section for wartime Luger & Walther pistols :
http://www.michigan.gov/documents/Fi...de_98674_7.pdf

The codes for Make (manufacturer) , Type (PI- semi-automatic pistols) , & Caliber are listed. I'm not sure if model is still used, according to the latest data. Use whoever made the Luger that you finally decide to get.

Be sure they include the suffix letter along with the serial number if it has one. If you end up picking a mix-master Luger with different serial numbers on the gun, they record the frame serial number from the front of the trigger guard.

It's still a hassle, and a lot of the guys from other states find it odd, but it's the law for handgun ownership in Michigan. They can call it safety inspection or registration - it's still a PIA..

But that shouldn't stop you from joining the Luger family!

Regards,
Fritz.
