ammo help DWM 471-30 cal

I was given two boxes of ammo today, both boxes missing lid....however one is full, one missing a few rounds, Head stamp is marked "DWM 471 and a "k" left and right side"......30 cal, not reloaded, looks to be a steel bullet with a flat lead top.....original boxes have on bottom half " Karlsurhe" on one end and the other "u. munitionstaoriken"....not real sure of spelling because top part of label is gone......can someone tell me what I got here....I can try and post pictures if needed.....thanks

You have received early Luger pistol ammunition made by DWM-Karlshure. If it is carbine ammunition, the tip would normally have a black tip with a cartridge headstamp 471A. To the best of my knowledge, the early boxes themselves are a light greenish color and there are three different types of labels which are green, blue and orange. It is possible that the later boxes (or those for export) produced during 1910-1913 are a light brownish color. If I am correct, the orange label is for hollow point cartridges.

I hope this information is helpful to you. It is a shame that the two boxes are missing the lid which would have boosted their value.

The bullets do attract a magnet......do they have any collector value as single rounds? it is 471 and not 471A.....thanks

Without a box, I would estimate about $7 a round.

For the record:

The producer is Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken A.G.

DWM (yes, the company that made the original Luger) had an ammunition branch in Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany.

@Albert: Karlshure is something completely different, I don't think Carl's Prostitute was involved in the process. :D
