Grips for 70's Interarms P-08's
 

As I've mentioned in another post the left grip on my P-08 is very poor quality. There are many thousands of these guns out there, surely someone is making replacement grips for them. Can anyone direct me to where they are? Thanks.

They ain't out there!:( If it is basically sound, I can probably improve the appearance.

Well, nobody is making replacement grips, but there is some residual stock floating around in Germany.

The grips themselves were made as uncheckered blanks in Italy, and received final checkering, oiling and the dreaded brass pins in Germany.

If you do not object to Bakealite, the Original Swiss grips for the M29 fit nicely. The only problem is the slot at the rear for the grip safety. It is a little longer on the Swiss version but they were fine for me and feel so much better.

HS, I have a new set of original factory PO8 type checkered wood Parabellum grips available @$150 or just a left side, cut for the cartridge counter indicator @$50. I also have a few sets of new repro black plastic M29 Swiss grips, as shown above, @$40. Th hellerarms@webtv.net

Glen, I recommend you post a couple of quality photos of the offending grip both installed and off the gun and Hugh can tell you whether or not he can rework it to your satisfaction.

I know it may seem like I'm nitpicking, or reacting to statements made in this forum about 70's era grips shapes, but I disliked the left grip when I took it out of the box. If you look you can see a nearly vertical line near the center that looks like someone bumped the machine that was cutting the checkering, there are several of these really, and they aren't on the RH grip or the other P-08 grips from the same era.

P.S., there are no brass pins in or under any of these grips That I can find.

I can sand off the checkering, thinning the grips; change the edge angles to a more tapered profile similar to original Luger grips, rechecker @ 20 lines per inch, and stain a darker reddish-walnut color. The cost will be $75 including return postage. For $25 more, I can checker with an uncheckered border similar to Swiss grips.

Thanks, Hugh. For the work involved it's cheap IMHO. I managed to ruin a nice cocobolo grip on another gun trying to clean up checkering. Let me see if my local 'smith is interested first, he's been out of town for a while.

I think the brass pins are specific to the Swiss style M29/70 frame, not the P.08 frame. But I could be wrong.

The brass pins were phased out somewhere after 1973.

So there are P08 style grips with brass pins.

My local gunsmith refinished the grip, looks and feels much better now. Now if I could get rid of the stupid grip safety! Thing pinches my hand and doesn't always deactivate, worst part is that it's part of the safety and the safety won't work without it.

Amen to these comments!

They took an almost perfect design (yes the right grip usually works lose on an original Luger if not properly oiled and cared for) and butchered it!

I agree that the grip saftey is also a nightmare! Perhaps a longer one, like the Swiss original, wouldn't make you constantly and uncomfortablly grip the frame so tightly and unnaturally.

Again, these 1970s Parabellums failed commercially. Perhaps they should have spent the few more dollars necessary to fabricate a more original Luger rather than take a 1929 Swiss and cheapen it.:mad:

I'd guess the grip safety was also an appeasement to GCA '68. When liberals win we all lose for a looooooong time.

No, I don't think the GCA of 1968 had anything to do with it.

They modified the original sear configuration, to save a few cents, and without the grip saftey, the pistol can be easily fired by simply picking it up the wrong way.
