Artillery Model Questions

I own a 1914 DWM Artillery Model Luger complete with snail drum and wooden shoulder stock. My question involves the drum. It has a three digit serial number. Interestingly the digits are the same as the first three on the Luger. Is this coincidence? I ask because snail drums were not made until three years after my Luger was manufactured. Were they retrofited or numbered to keep things straight in the armory? If you know please let me know.
Thanks TCGuy

Sheer coincidence...but cool!:)

A 1914 DWM arty is a little on the scarce side. We would really enjoy some photos if you would be so kind.

Charlie, Do you have photo's of the drum? A myriad of possibilities exist. Drums were NOT numbered to pistols.
5 Drums were in each Kasten and one loader.
I am sure George Anderson could tell us how many were issued to each Company.

I will get pictures but at the moment I am over a 1000 miles from my Luger. The snail drum is not a reproduction...thanks for the help.

Like the fellows before me, I would be really interested in seeing photos of your pistol. Trommel magazines were serial numbered for manufacturer and army accounting purposes only they were not numbered to weapons.

If it is a 1914 dated DWM Artillery I would like to know the

serial number and I will add it to the list.

Bob, It is and I will let you know as soon as I return home....I have done enough research to know what it is...I have two Artillery models not sure of the year of the other and the maker are you interested in it? Dad bought the second one in 1927 with a Luger hoslter but it is too small or short for the long barrel.TC Guy

TC Guy

I am listing only the 1914 DWM Artillerys by

serial number on this site.

Some pictures of it would be nice for everyone to see.

back in town. My 1914 DWM Artillery Model Luger is serial numbered 677. Its accompanying snail drum is serial numbered 677911 on the back there is a B over an N I have some pictures if someone is willing to post. The regular magazine (clip) is aluminum and does not have any serial numbers. Is that correct?

Just looked at my pictures they are lousy...The 1914 date appears to be double stamped in my picture... it is not just my shaky hands...and an inexpensive digital

Charlie,
The original magazine would be nickel or tin plated and would have a wood bottom with the S# stamped on it.

Thanks Mike...I'll check it out. I don't think the 1914 has any numbers on the bottom , the 1917 has numbers but they do not match the gun.
