DWM Luger Identification/Valuation
1 Attachment(s)
I recently received this gun from a family member. I was able to identify most of it, but would love any additional information.
Top: DWM 1911 LH Side: German Eagle Proof Stamp on slide 'G' is revealed when pulling back the slide 23 below the slide Under Barrel: 5823 8, 82 Under barrel on frame: 5823 On Handle: B.2.T.S..1.99. (Bavarian, 2nd Battallion, Train, Field Signal, 1st Company, 99 Gun) as I have interpreted it. Any historical information on who this unit was? mag: 3067f (cross or T stamp) Thanks! |
Brian,
Your unit mark B.2.T.S.1.99. is "Bayerisches, 2 Train-Bataillon, Sanit¤ts-Kompagnie 1, Waffe Nr. 99"; translates as Bavarian, Second Train Battalion, First Medical Company, weapon #99. These were weapons issued to medical personnel in mobile support columns, probably ambulancers. There have been two discussions of 1911 DWM issued to Bavarian Train-Bataillons on Jan Still's Luger Forum: http://luger.gunboards.com/showthrea...light=bavarian http://luger.gunboards.com/showthrea...light=bavarian There are small databases of these guns in the discussions, it would be useful to know the script letter suffix present below the serial number on the front of your frame in order to add a new data point. We would certainly like to see better photos, overall and details, of your Luger. --Dwight |

Thanks for the quick replies!
I will post a whole host of photos in the coming days. All I had on me last night was my camera-phone. Its a little embarrasing considering I am a professional photographer. I will try to take it down to the studio and shoot it on white so everything stands out. Regarding the letter suffix on the barrel, I cannot decifer it very well. It looks like an R. Slanted script, 1 loop with a split tail. |
In all liklihood it is an "e" as there are four B.2.T.S. marked pistols in my list that run from 3860e to 5938e. My list combined with Noll's has eleven pistols listed between 1623e and 5823e, all are Bavarian and six are medics' guns.
