Who made those baby Lugers?

I heard "Luger (designer) made a baby Luger (gun) for himself".... but this type appears very frequently. Who made those? The grip does look shoter, was it made from scratch, or modified from a regular one?

There are a few who do and have done this conversion. Including forum member Hugh Clark, who is no longer doing it.

From what I have seen, the best current conversions are being done by Neil Keller. He was charging $1000 to convert your donor Luger, the last that I heard.

Alvin,

A baby Luger is made by cutting 1/2" out of the middle of the grip frame and welding the bottom back on. The end of the bbl is cut off, the end turned down, the front sight band is cut off and reamed until it is a press fit on the turned bbl muzzle and soldered on. The magazine is cut off at the bottom and the bottom plug reinstalled.

I made a few after reading about the one Georg Luger made and seeing a picture of it. Neil Keller of Kustom Ballistics makes very nice ones.

John Martz made many over the years and other folks, Art has made a dozen or so, plus many, many other skilled craftsman.

Supposedly 3 or 4 were originally made by DWM; one of which was carried as a pocket gun by Georg Luger.

I had Art Buchannan make one for each of my kids; they are quite well done.

He no longer makes them, though.

I saw one in a local store back some time ago, asking $10,000 (or $20,000? I forgot). Not sure what this unusual one is. But it's only "one-dimentional" bigger.;)

Alf,

I cut it off directly behind the front sight band, leaving just a tiny bit of bbl extending from the rear of the band so you have enough metal to dress the band smooth at the rear.

Thanks Hugh.
