This luger is listed for sale at another forum. The seller is asking $1,800.00. Is the four digit serial number thing true? Is the price too high?

1916 DWM Luger: - A excellent example of a WWI Luger. All the numbers match, there are no import marks, and as far as I can tell the finish is original (I did the "shine a bright light and if it glows reddish its original" test). This weapon is kind of unique as it only has a four digit letter SN, with no letter code - letter codes were applied after the first 10,000 guns produced, so its an early one.

Hi Alan,

It looks all correct and in good, but not excellent condition(slight pitting and faded straw color). The serial number without a suffix indicates the first block of 10,000 run in 1916. However that's really nothing special.

The price is pretty much maximum and IMO, a bit high for the condition. I would put it around $1500.

So the 3 digit, no suffix I just sold for should have gone for a lot more, dang it! ;)

Ejector is broken!

Nice catch Nikola! The ejector does seem to be missing a critical piece... namely the tab that does the ejection...

YUP! Nikola has observed..that puppy is busted off at the root! To break this hard part is pretty tough and I would want to inspect the bolt and interior of the chamber to see what happened there...

The ejector isn't numbered and could/should be replaced without stigma. I never have been a stickler for matched mags to make an item "collectable". Having said that, I agree with the much more handsome and intelligent other Ron that I would be more comfortable with a price closer to $1500.

What would be the cost to replace an ejector?

Ha! Been parusing AR15.com eh? I saw that piece over there just after I bought my 1916 DWM for much cheaper...however, in all honesty, this one does look much nicer than mine.
Good catch on the broken ejector. I didn't see that when I was goatishly examining the pics on that board myself.

And in a ghoulish vein, I wonder just what old Errol Flynn actually looks like in his crypt at this time...I doubt he is very good looking. At least to anyone other than a bone-hungry dog...

I replaced an ejector on a late '40s Luger, which is a shooter. I got the ejector from Numrich Gun parts, if I remember correctly for about $35. Not sure if these early guns used the same ejector, you'd need to ask some of the experts on this board and/or do some research. Tom Heller would be a good person to check with. It's a little tricky replacing this part since it is similar to hardened spring steel and is subject to breakage during installation. If you are handy with tools and small parts, you shouldn't have much difficulty.
I think Jerry has a very good point in that you should ensure that there isn't other damage besides the ejector. This is true if you are planning to shoot this gun. If you don't plan on shooting it, then you probably wouldn't need to worry about the ejector. Hope this helps, barr

It only takes the edge of the standard Luger take-down and mag loading tool, or an empty shell casing, or thin smooth flat screwdriver, or nail clipper, etc. to pop out a Luger ejector, and the path getting to there is all done with no other tools. If you have bulletproof thumbnails, you may be able to get it out with no tools at all.
It is trickier to install than remove, but installing an ejector takes NO tools at all.
