Another Museum Luger

Here is another Luger that was on exhibit in a museum that we visited while on a trip to France & England. Can anyone ID this one?

Hope for the owner's sake he wasn't holding it when the Shermann ran over it. :)

A lot of captured guns were simply thrown on piles and set on fire. I used to have one of those battered, burned and partially melted lugers as well a few years ago.

Defintely a Mauser gun Mike... the Mauser "bump" on the rear of the "ears" is visible. Sorry I can't be more specific :roflmao: but your photo is out of focus and I can't see the markings well enough to determine which month and year it was made :D

Strange, I can see the unit mark.

Good thing the safety is engaged on both.

I found I've gotten used to the "survivors" or "exceptionals", and took them as granted. My shooting range friend simply refused to believe an old guns could have 80%+ gun blue left.

Alvin,

Could that be a Chinese C96 in .45 ACP?

Maybe not!

An A - B comparison of the C96 in first photograph I posted with the one in the photo that Alvin posted doesn't look as likely as this one dose at being the right match for a Chinese C96.

No, it's not. Please note the delta in hammers, magazine wells, and front sights. The one digged out of dirt has a big hammer, looks more like a LRH. Of course, that's guesstimation.

The so called "Shansei .45 ACP" is ....hard to put that appropriately without offending anyone, please forgive me first if you have a different view.... a gun to cheat collectors' USD. It has never been popular in China, only recently became a "historically important" variation, "only 8,000 were made!!"..... big deal? I think my friend commented it correctly: "If you have gotten every variation except this one, then it's may not be a bad choice."
