1910 DWM Questions
Hey Guys,
I have a 1910 DWM luger that I am trying to fugure the value. It is all matching including 1 mag. It has another mag that I suspect matched the gun at one time but the end looks as if someone made a replacement for the lost numbered peice. The weapon is about 98% overall in finish with the staw color in the very good. It has ubit marking which read "13A2". The holster is unmarked with the loading tool and came with the gun. Two things bother me about this pistol. First, the bolt will not stay open when empty"magazine is still attached". I inspected the weapon to find no broken or worn peices and no fault in the mag. Second the take down lever and side plate are not marked. I compared it to a 1917 Artillery and G dated S42 and found that it has far less markings than the other pistols. I can see no evidence of touch up or reblueing. The Weimar stampings as well as serial numbers are crisp and the finish is consistant with the finish of the time with the exception of the excellent condition of the finish. I will try and take some good pics and post them. Can anyone give me an aproximate value of the gun. I may consider selling it. Andy |
Dear Mr. ampickle,
Look again at the 1910 DWM that you are trying to figure out. For this date Luger, the take down lever and side plate should be numbered on the bottom in the Commercial fashion. Also, it was manufactured without a holdopen mechanism which accounts for the fact that the bolt will not stay open on an empty magazine. Most Lugers of this vintage were altered to add the holdopen, but some escaped this modification and this may be one of them. |
Sounds like a correct 1910 which has not had the hold open mechanism added (this was done in 1913-14) The unit marking probably indicates 13th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd company.
Military Lugers made before late 1911 will have last digits of the serial number stamped in the old commercial style. That is they will be on the bottum of both the side plate and the take down lever. If the magazine is original and matching it should display large numeral nunning the length of the mag button and not have a suffix. If you plan to sell this gun I am an interested buyer. If not I would like to know the full serial number and a detailed description of the unit mark for my records. |
I checked and yes they are numbered at the bottom and match. I never would have guessed. I am about to send PICS. Thanks

Forum says Pics to large to post. Ron, I would be happy to send PiCs if you can find a way to post them. Serial # is 6211. Unit marking was exactly as typed. Ron send me your email and I will be happy to send you pics.

Mag is correct as well. Also Grips fit very snug and are fitted well. Retaining screws look as if they have never been removed so I didnt bother marring them up to check #'s. I will try putting some light in the mag well and see if I can see #'s.

Andy, great piece just as one would expect except for the hold-open. I will have to look to see where the 13th Field Artillery was from...the answer may lay there.

The hold open wasnt put in use until 1913-14. This one escaped modification.
