Dutch Luger Info
1 Attachment(s)
My nephew sent me these pictures of a Dutch luger that someone he knows may want to sell. The finish looks good but I don't know if it is original. Any information on the markings and value would be appreciated. Serial number is 10318.

Hmmm , nice clean original looking gun , better nick than mine, probably never went to indonesia like most dutch lugers . Holster and cleaning rod is correct . Mag doesn't look right , should have a wooden bottom . brass id plate is nice , you can tell from that to which division , regiment or group it was issued to. you would have to check all the numbered parts to see if they have the last two digits of the serial number 18 on them to tell if it all matches . It should also have the year it was last refurbished stamped on the barrel . will have to wait till I get home to look up my copy of "the Dutch Luger" to see when it was issued .

The magazine is not original, but some sort of modern reproduction.
The holster and cleaning rod alone are rather valuable. More guns than holsters survived the tropical humid climate. I wouldn't worry about the finish. With Dutch lugers 'Original Finish' is a bit of a problem, as they saw refurbishing programs every 7 years on average. (but this does not mean they were reblued every 7 years, but reblues were done to guns or parts if needed). It's in a very nice state for a KNIL Model 1911 version. |
If its a 9mm made by DWM the most likely date of issue is 1928 when 3,820 pistols were issued to the dutch east indies army , numbered between 10,182 and 14,001 . No idea of the value in the USA , but if all the numbers are correct it is a fairly rare collectors piece with only the mag detracting from it , off set by the rarity of the holster . $1400 to $1800. I would say.
I would love to find a proper holster like that for my dutch luger . |
I think the holster will fetch that amount on it's own easily.
I'm thinking more in line of some $3500 for the gun and $1500 for the holster and a couple of hundred for the cleaning tool. This is a $5000-plus rig. |

Thanks for everyones help. I'm learning the holster and cleaning rod are very hard to find. I was off one on the serial number, it's 10319. Pictures are all I have right now and the gun is in another state so I will try to track the guy down and see if he wants to sell. Here are some more of the holster, do they look correct?

The holster flap has been shortened on one side. This will affect the value. Whoever did this sure made a costly mistake :(
The grip should be completely covered by the holster flap, with an additional leather piece covering the bottom area. Ray: Sorry :) A couple of them came up for auction over here last year. They didn't go cheap! http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload/holster_cut.jpg |
Gerben do you remember what they went for.?

Richie: Over 1200 Euros. I chickened out at 750.
Ray: Yep, we did :). But even with the 'modification' this holster is pretty rare. |
