:bigbye:Totally painless! It only took me 2 seconds.

Hi All,

Please vote on this gun issue question with USA Today. It will only take a
few seconds of your time. Then pass the link on to all the pro gun
folks you know. Hopefully these results will be published later this
month. This upcoming year will become critical for gun owners with the
Supreme Court accepting the District of Columbia case against the right
for individuals to bear arms.

First - vote on this one.
Second - launch it to other folks and have THEM vote -

then we will see if the results get published.

Vote in the USA Today poll - click on the link below.

The Quesion is:
Does the Second Amendment give individuals the right to bear arms?

Cast mine, and judging by the 98% "Yes" answers, so did a lot of other educated people.

Terry,

No question about the "shall" and "not." The ongoing argument on this side of the pond revolves around the two dependent clauses at the beginning of the amendment; there are those who argue that the amendment clarifies the States' abilities to maintain a Militia, and has nothing to do with individual rights.

In the actual wording, it is very -not- clear.

I did my duty and voted YES.

Dwight,

Actually Dwight it is very clear. You just have to read it in context of the times. People who claim it is unclear just want to muddy the water for the 'voting public'.

Tac,

You know your opinions are welcome and appreciated here any time. Besides we've all mouthed off about what's been going on in GB often enough. :D

Also Tac, the primary problem is with the word 'infringed'. We don't have any lawmakers here (save a handful of exceptions) who have any idea what that means and never learned to use a dictionary. I have often accused our politicos of conspiring to rob us of our freedom. But in recent years it has slowly dawned on me that the problem is not sinister conspiracy but rather deep-seated, inbred stupidity. Our politicians actually do not understand the Constitution or the concept of liberty. They actually believe they give rights to us!

Lastly, the poll is inherently wrong! The 2nd Amendment DOES NOT guarantee the right to bear arms. That right is a birthright just as is liberty. The 2nd Amendment simply tells the scoundrels they can't do anything about it.

tac,

I take a little umbrage with your apology. It was totally unnecessary. Do not do it again. You stated what many of our politicians do not or cannot understand, and your observations are spot on.

For all others, please read David Kachel's last paragraph carefully. Our founding fathers recognized the right to keep and bear arms as a "right" of "we the people" and not a privilege bestowed by government. They made a positive statement that this right is inherent for a free people and stated, as such, it shall not be infringed...period.

I wanted to say that another election is just around the corner, and that deciding who to vote for is going to be a double edged sword â??for some peopleâ? ( cuts both ways). I simply ask that everyone do your research and fully understand all the issues before casting your vote. It wasnâ??t so long ago that we nearly fell off the cliff with gun control, some states have never fully recovered. If we get pushed over the side again itâ??s going to be many years before we can once again be on top.

Letâ??s not let that happen.

I concur with both Ron and LugerVern's comments in their entirety...

(Got that Tac! ?) :)

LugerVern,

You may not know just exactly how close to the edge we are. Check John McCain's voting record on gun control. It's no coincidence the Republican party is not mentioning it. His record is appalling. He has even proposed one or two anti-gun bills. This is clearly a democrat in Republican clothing.

LugerVern 05-11-2008 11:41 AM

Oh, I wasn't suggesting any one particular. "To each his own", but wanted to remind people that it is better to lose a little than to lose a lot.

War and politics in the USA are much the same, In war you never put down your gun, in politics you never drop your guard--the end result is the same--loss of freedom.

If you can't win, hurt them, never let them become strong, you can always come back later and stomp them into the dirt :-)

There is much fence straddling going on by each side, its pretty disgusting. Do your research, vote for the best person in each case.

But who ever you choose--get out there and vote!!

Shoo-ey that's tough to do but you are right.
