Thank you for taking the time to write this out and sharing it with us. I for one do appreciate it. I hope that Ed or John will keep this as a sticky for everyone to read. What do you thinks guys?

I do have a question about air rifles and here is why.

My daughter has taken up shooting sporter air rifle for the local 4H club. They compete against two other 4H clubs and several JROTC clubs in their district. The clubs best shooter shoots precision air rifle and is one of the top shooters in the state. Her goal is to compete in London in 2012 for the USA Olympic team. My daughter is giving thought to this also and is practicing quit a lot to try and achieve this.

What are the rules/laws concerning air rifles?
Are you allowed to own any?
Are they governed in the same way as other firearms there?
Would the team members be responsible for the rifle or would the US Olympic committe be responsible for the rifle?
Would each team member have to get a permit?
The pellets these rifles shoot are .177 caliber.

I know I asked a lot of questions and I hope you can answer them. Or direct me to where I can find the answers to them. I will check with the folks in Colorado Springs (Olympic Training Center) and see what answers they can give me.

Many thanks for your reply. I'm not sure as to your statement about black power handguns. Cartridge loading BP is out, what about muzzle loading handguns such as a Colt 1851 Navy or ( Royal Navy plug, Hornblower would have a pair!)) a single shot sea-service BP pistol? Would a flintlock or cap change things?

Bless your stout English heart!! The people from the Ministry of Love REALLY don't want firearms over there! Your laws could be a blueprint for our new Democratic Administration when it takes over next Jan.! Wasn't there some guy who tried to blow up Pariment in the 1600's?

Thanks for the quick response to my questions. That was very informative and I do believe that you answered all my questions. I have no doubt about your answers and I am glad you are around to answer them for me.

That is really interesting to find out that you coach. I did not know you did that and will pass that along to my girl. I am sure she will find that quite exciting. The rifle my daughter is shooting at this time an Avanti 887 and her friend is shooting an Anschutz. I do not recall the model at this time. She is currently competing at the state level and my daughter is unable to ask her the model of the Anschutz she has. Very nice rifle. I will pass along the information about the gun case.

I was wondering if you might happen to know of any used air rifles for sale that the club could purchase. Or direct me in the right direction to look. That goes for everyone else here.

Nice to see about muzzel loading. They must think them no danger to society. Guess no one really died in all the pre 20th century wars. Being born in the Virginia, a rebel by birth, I give my 58 cal. 3-band Enfield, along with a few repo BP revolvers, a work out now and then. Not to mention a couple small scale BP Cannons! Sorry, driftimg away from Lugers here.

It is sad indeed that a nation of such longstanding reputation for courage and adventure should be ruled by a parliament filled with Neville Chamberlains. They (the British people) deserve better.

Nor are they ever likely to. People who want to take away your weapons are ALWAYS cowards who are afraid to let you have them. They never have any genuine interest in anyone's safety but their own. And God knows government scum usually have ample justification to fear an armed populace. (Though I believe the traditional weapon of choice for dealing with such scoundrels has always been the gallows. It is certainly what I would prefer.) They likewise would never learn to use one in defense of their country or even themselves.
