Help With S&W Value

All,

I just took in the pictured S&W Model 13-3 pistol. Usually, I would just use it to shoot hapless cans and car parts. But something about this gun gives me pause. The gun is in mint condition, and the nickeling is flawless, seems like factory. Serial number AAV97XX. Before I go and tear this thing up, anybody know anything about it? Value?

Thanks!

I don't much care for nickle guns, but as a subjective comment (to each his own) I must dispute Rick's comment about this being cumbersome for a carry gun... I owned one much like it 25 years ago, but in .38 Special and blue. It carried quite invisibly in an upside-down safariland shoulder holster under any kind of jacket...

Now I wouldn' t want to try to stuff one of these in a pocket, I have a walther PPK/s for that when jackets are too obvious or too hot... but when jacketed (me not the bullets) this type of gun came along for many a ride to unsavory places, and felt like part of my hand when it was withdrawn from the holster. Sorry I don't have that one anymore...

...and TAC, I think by the term "tear it up" he meant remove it's pristine condition by actually using it... one of those American Euphemisms I am afraid... when you finally move here, you will get used to the language change... :)

John, I'd agree that this is what he meant, though I've never heard it expressed that way before.

I, on the other hand, love nickled guns, particularly factory ones which are well done. I guess it's an "in the eye of thebeholder" thing.

It's a nice gun and I'd gladly give the $200 or so mentioned for it.

Hello - you will get some good advice on the Smith & Wesson forum.

My purpose in posting was to just make sure that I don't have some sort of absurdly valuable gun here, and all concur that I do not. The laws of physics remain in force, and a S&W .357 Mag is worth $200-$250 like always.

The local consignment place wants to put it up at $350 or so, but I think that its fate is more along the lines for living under the seat of a pickup truck and picking off the occasional obsolete household appliance or consumer electronics product - unless my wife claims it, that is. She recently moved from a S&W Model 60 to one of those Sig P6/P225 pistols that are all the rage, but she did note the arrival of this gun, and she actually troubled to examine it...

Now, for those of you with loose change burning holes in your pockets, there was a very nice Remington ADL Delux 7mm Mag in the mix, and this did make it down to the consigment shop. I would keep that one too, except that I already have an M700 Sendero in 7mm STW.
