9mm luger brass for .30cal

Gents, has anyone necked down 9mm luger brass to .30 luger. I know the neck is short but since the cartrige headspaces on the shoulder would it be safe? Thanks Joe.

Okay, I had it my private messages...

A good friend of mine has done exactly what you have proposed. I haven't asked if I could use his name so he shall remail nameless unless he chooses to post here...Here is the result:

30 Luger (Fiocchi) on the left and 7.65x19 on the right. They end up about the same in length more or less. I might note that I did not custom throat my barrel as Esko did, I just relied on the 30 Luger dimensions there.
Here is what else he had to say about the short .30 caliber wildcat:

Quote:

Guess the nice thing about the 7.65x19 was ... plenty of 9mm casings around, the dies are not really custom made(just cut down a set of regular 30 Luger). My Lee dies were surface hardened, so it took carbide to shorten them; but once thru the top layer they were relatively soft.
If you try this idea, let us know how you make out, but remember any liability is your own, the forum can't be responsible for what you are going to try.

John, That is very cool but I want to run 9mm brass through .30 luger dies. The shoulder is good but the neck is short. I seated a bullet and it seats well. I just need to know if it is dangerous to shoot like this. Thanks Joe.

Thanks Rick. I just needed to know the dangers. Joe.

Thanks for checking in Rick... I knew you would... but since I didn't have a chance to check with you first, I left your name out of it...
