>30cal luger cases from .223rem
Gents, has anyone made .30 luger cases from .223 rem cases. Is a special die required to do this. Thanks Joe.
|
Thanks Rick, My dies are on the way, when they get here I plan to try forming the cases. The thing I am concerned with is the overall thickness of the brass not the neck. The neck can be trimed. Will the presure be to high with this brass? Thanks Joe.

Thanks again Rick. I know I can get brass relatively cheep (starline) but this is something I want to see if I can do. I will post my results. Joe.

I just formed some cases useing my newly aquired lee dies. I trimmed them to length then I inside neck reammed them. I used 4.5 grains of 231 with a .311 72gr. bullet. The outside neck spec. was good. Shot one hole at 7 yards. The cases were Lake city. The only problem was failure to cycle. Will try more loads this week end. Joe.

using .223 cases seems like a lot of hard work . I'm not sure this will work , but why not buy some 9 x21 cases , popular amomg IPSC shooters , neck them down in the right die , trim to length , and away you go .
Is this necessary however , according to my local dealer , .30 Luger cases are still available from Starline , but he was out of them today !? |
Rick, I sluged my barrel and it measured .311 so I tried .32 acp bullets. The outside neck measured the same as factory loaded ammo. Is it safe to work a load. Joe.

Thanks Rick, you have been a big help. Joe.
|
Rick, does this cartridge head space on the sholder or the case mouth. Joe.
|
Rick, I can't get it to cycle with the 71gr bullets. I tried 5.5grs of unique and 4.5 grs of 231. Any suggestions. Joe.

Success, I finally got 71grain bullets to work. 5.5 grains of unique in .223 lc brass did the trick. Joe.
