Luger collection surrendered to police !
A friend of mine just called to inform me that a widow of a former luger collector up in MA handed over to their local police department his entire former collection. Does anyone have any (serious) suggestions on how the widow can ask for it back? I suggested for her to go to the PD and explain that she made a mistake and that the collection indeed was to be passed down per the specifics of the decedents will.

I would just make a formal petition from a lawyer, they could say that she didn't realize the value and or that it was in the will (if it was).
Ed PS: and do it soon.... |
No easy. Obviously, she's not licensed, and owning guns is *not* a right in Massachusetts, owner must be licensed. Local specialized lawyer should know how to play this.
One way I can think of .... transferring the guns to a licensed friend that she can trust, and transferring back after she got the licenses. (I'm not a lawyer). |
She needs to get an attorney ASAP... once they are in the property system for the local police it will take an act of God to get them back ... the police will not be able to return them once they are logged in as surrendered property without a legal hassle...
Any idea how many were handed in? |

Hi Leo,
I hope you Can Help this lady recover a part of her husband's estate... It is real important that spouses have some idea of the value of a gun collection in case the Lord calls us home early... She may have handed over thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of collectible guns to be destroyed by the local police! |
Thanks members for the suggestions. I am trying to find out where the guns are now and will see what the options are ... Paul

Hi John......Paul has contacted me and as soon as the collections where abouts are determined I will do what I can. I did emphasize the importance of getting an attorney.

I almost hate to point out the obvious here but have you had this lady checked out by a Dr. for some sort of mental defect? Who in their right mind would pack off their late husbands pride & joy gun collection to the local Police station?
Knowing what I know of Police I would bet you these Lugers are already dispersed among the good ole boys as they laughed their butts off and she will play holy hell getting them back. Talk about closing the barn door after the horses are out.... Jerry Burney |

Contact the NRA field rep in MA, he may be able to offer some insight or recommend an attorney. I'm fairly certain that if she doesn't get them back, they will be destroyed. The conditions that make people hate guns in our non-2nd Ammendment states also make them hate police. Jack |
