How to rebuild a Sherman Tank....
 

As a few of you know, I host a rather large automotive site. Within that site, There is a Member Only section - and recently, one of the Rennlist Members helped rebuild a Sherman tank. It's an incredible picture journey... I've been following it for a while - and he finished up this thread this evening. I asked his permission to copy it to the "rest of the world"....

I just spent 20+ minutes looking at the photos. If I ever run across an old Sherman tank, these guys are my choice to put it back together!

No telling how much time and money they put into this project.....

PS: Build time was roughly two years. Tank is now for sale at $800K.

Simply amazing.

Brings back some memories. I grew up playing in the local forest here, where there was a military range. They had an old Sherman there that was used for practice purposes and me and my brother spent quite some time playing in that old tank. The Sherman was sold for scrap in the 1990s.

20 minutes? It took me at least two hours to look at them all. The photo's need a caption. There is a story behind this that should be told.
I have several dozen questions..
What amazed me is that this vehicle is relatively fragile, vulnerable if you will. The turret is massive but the rest of the body and tracks are not heavily armoured at all.
Truly an amazing feat to have put that back together. What a beauty!

There was a show I saw on one of the History or Discovery Channels about rebuilding tanks. I think they are based out of England. The episode I saw, they rebuilt a Sherman using two. They took the front half of one and the back half of another and welded them together. They did an excellent job too. Got the turret ring to fit and everything. I would not have thought it possible.

I guess I'm missing something. How do you see the pictures?
