I.D. tool marked 7above & U below hole
Gentlemen : I have a Luger tool that seems proper Thickness which would be under 1/10 of an inch and the marks are 7 above hole and U below the hole ,no other marks present . I have been looking in several books and can't find the clue to the Luger it is for, unless this is some type of unit marking or something like that for a commercial Luger used by some group maybe? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will post pictures if interest warrants it. Thank You, Dale

Dale, pictures would be the only way to guess I think? Sounds like a unit marking to me?

Dale, what size are the stampings and is each followed by a period?
|
Gentlemen: the # and letter stampings are about 1/16" high and about 1/16" away from the hole in the tool ,no periods following them . I will post a picture later today. Thank You, Dale

You can send me your largest photo(s) and I can shrink it down for you. We need to be able to see the letters once cropped down to that area. weimar_lugers@comcast.net |
Unknown Takedown Tool Photos
Here is the front photo:
http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload...ol_7_u_002.jpg Here is the back: http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload...ol_7_u_003.jpg Now that I have seen the tool, my first impression was that it was a reproduction... because the screwdriver edges, and the mag button hole are so crude, that I don't think they would have passed WW2 German quality control... What do the rest of you guys think? |
Ed: I'll change the profile back to allow emails ,Thank You, Dale

It is a repo and a poor one at that. The letter & number are not a unit mark.

The overall length of the tool is too short to be original, unless cut down. The thin rim inside the hole is more centered on the bottom, than on the left side as is seen most often. TH

Gentlemen : Thank you for the timely and informative responses to the post and the help with the photos. I didn't think it was anything special as I've relayed to a few members but it doesn't hurt to find out .I know after years of Gun collecting that sometimes what appears as crude and unacceptable can in rare cases turn out to have a greater value .
Thank You , Dale P.S. Tom, ck. sent Today for 3 FXO mag bottoms& pins ,Thank You |
