Early Navy with markings, need info pls

Dear all,

I am new to this forum, and just got a Navy Luger that my friend owns....currently, but we might do a trade. This gun is Iceland, and has been there past 40 years at least.

Sadly, importation of semi-auto handguns was banned in 1998, so a price of a simple pre-ban registered Glock 17 is in the $3000 area now!!

Can you please tell me what year this model is, and possibly what the markings on the back of the back strap mean? The serial no is "6012 a"

The safety does not work. It has the long range rear sight.

Hinrik

There is no year stamped on top. M over crown marks look ok. Sorry for poor photo:

The unit (??) on the back of the back strap, it reads: "W. K. 7370" Can you please tell me what it means? I looked at a few markings, but cant read into it. I will order a book about Imperial markings.

This Navy Luger is a 1906 First Issue "Altered" (the gun was officially modified to change the "safe" position of the thumb safety from the upper to the lower position). The "WK" backstrap marking is for "Werft Kiel", the shipyard at Kiel. The 7370 is a property number.

The gun looks to be in quite nice condition. The grip safety spring is either missing, broken, or the safety was improperly installed and did not engage the spring (most likely).

Dear Ron,

Thank you for your quick response. I removed the grips earlier this week, and I remember that the flat plate coming from the thumb safety lever is not conected. I had to use slight pressure to place the plate to the side to be able to fully view the "Gesxxxxx" safety word, which by the way still has about 100% of the white highlight color in it. I will have to take pictures of the inside of it, in 3 weeks when I return to Iceland. If you are interested.

Thank you

Hinrik

Replacement springs are available for this gun from forum member Lugerdoc... look for his postings in the 'for sale' or 'repairs' forum...
