Loose sideplate

Recently picked up a shooter luger. One problem is it will only fire the first shot. To make it fire the remaining shots, pressure has to be placed on the side plate. I believe this to be due to a very worn take down spring, or could there be something else I'm not seeing? Usually, Numrich is a good source for parts but they are out of stock. I tried e-mailing Lugerdoc but have not received a reply. Does anyone else have another source for parts? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Christopher,
The take down lever spring holds the lever in place so it doesn't turn freely. Changing the spring won't apply more pressure to the sideplate. Unless the lever is swinging open, other adjustments are needed to fix your problem.

Mike, thank you for your quick reply. One other thing I noticed was that when I pull the trigger I can see the sideplate pull away from the receiver on the top side but if I apply pressure to the sideplate, the gun functions properly. I tried comparing to another luger that I know cycles properly but could not see the difference between the two. Anyway thanks for the help once again.

Chris, Sorry if I did not reply to your email. It sounds like your side plate needs a bit of judicious bending or pehaps a different trigger lever. Unfortunately, to do this job, I (or any other lugersmith) would need the entire luger. I normally charge a $50 inspection fee that includes return Fed Ex S&H and $50 for a "trigger job". Just finish one on another member's Navy luger. Tom

Tom, thank you for your reply. I had a local gunsmith take a look at it and he adjusted the side plate for a tighter fit. I havent shot it yet, so I dont know if it will cycle properly. If his solution doesnt work, I will contact you about shipping it off to you for repairs. Chris
