how to tell a reblue?

How would one find out if a finish has been redone?
was original finish on these normally matte or glossy?
thanks

Dear Chris, Tac is 100% correct; vintage Lugers never had a high polished finish, not even the commercial models. The trickier reblues to tell are those done with the correct rust or salt blued methods (depending on era). If you check the first locked thread under "New Collector Forum" (a few catagories up), you will find a very nice short tutorial/comparison on re-blues by Heinz, that will show you what to look for.

regards,

Vince
