Hello to all/my first luger

Luckily, my father just gave me his grandfather's Luger. I got some information from another luger website, I was told this gun was referred to as the "black widow". He also gave me the gun with a holster from WW1.
The only unfortunate part is that he has lost the magazine for the gun.
I have some pictures posted at my photobucket account.

Any information available on the gun is very helpful. I believe the gun has all original #'s matching parts, and grips appear to be original aswell.
Thanks for any help in advance!

Jay, welcome to the forum.

It is much more preferred that you host photos here on the forum, so folks don't have to leave the site and visit other places.

The "black widow" term is a american made up term, although commonly used by folks.

Information on your 41 byf would be helpful, pictures only help so much.

What is the serial number to include suffix on the front of the frame?

So far we know that it is a byf toggle (Mauser), made in 1941.

The last two of the serial number shoulad be on many small aprts, including the firing pin and other parts.

Welcome from Croatia.
Yes, you have nice Black Widow. But, you have holster for my DWM 1915.

The # 70 is stamped all over the gun, bottom side of the barrel it says 4370, and right near that is 8.82, on the side with the eagle engravings, the #655 is stamped underneath.

the letter w is stamped also underneath the barrel. Is the gun in decent shape from what you can tell? I don't think I have the original clip sadly.
Does the gun have much value?

Do you mean on the front of the frame? If so... it is the suffix to the serial # (4370w). The correct mag would be an FXO w/ a black bakelite bottom, the same as your grips. My guess on value would be $1600+.

Does this take 9mm bullets?

John Sabato 02-06-2008 12:08 PM

The Caliber is 9mm Parabellum, or also called 9mm Luger.

Walmart sells 100 round boxes of 115 grain cartridges for about $12.00

These should function very well in this pistol. Be sure to oil the moving parts before shooting. Enjoy!

The brand of aftermarket magazine that you should buy is Mec-Gar, unless you can find an original magazine. A new one will cost around $35.00 You can check the For Sale Forum for what is currently for sale by members.

ANY Luger magazine in good condition should work. The same magazine is used for both .30 Caliber Luger and 9MM Luger.

An original will cost you at least $100 plus, depending on the make, year and type of manufacture. Some original magazines can be double or more of this price.
