Lugerless

Well, boys, I guess I won't be riding with you anymore on this here drive - I traded my 'mutt' Luger on a nice Hi-Power Sunday, so I'm out of the Luger game. I certainly enjoyed the ride, and learned a tremendous amount about mine and the P.08 in general. This is without a doubt the most civil and courteous board there is on any subject. So, happy trails! Who knows, maybe there's another one in the cards for me someday!

saxman, good luck, the hi-power is a nice gun too :)

Hey Gary,

No reason to wander into oblivion, but good luck...

Ron

Thanks, guys, I'm sure I'll hang out here every so often. You never know when there'll be a remarkable find or something previously unknown.

Don't leave. You can own HiPowers and Lugers at the same time.
At least I hope these guys won't make me choose.

Too many good guys here to leave just because you don't happen to own a Luger at the moment.

Buy both! I did. I love shoulder stocked pistols so I have an Inglis & a Luger Navy.

You guys won't believe the debacle that trade turned out to be. The HP turned out to be an FEG fake, with 'Fabrique Nationale....' on the slide. The dealer was shocked, and agreed to take the 'HP' back and pay me for the Luger, which he already had a buyer for. Now, I already had a very nice FEG PJK-9HP and there's nothing wrong with them, but at some point a number of them were brought in with FEG serial numbers but slides with FN markings - watch out for these - serial numbers are typically a letter, a space, then five digits, like 'G 22344' or 'B 43567'. So, I met the seller at a gun show he was doing and got my money. Later, I had to put $50 more with it but got a beautiful 1969 FN HP in near-mint condition with Browning pouch and all. So, as the man said, 'It's been a long, strange trip...' Yes, I've been checking in here every so often and have posted a few replies. I did learn a LOT about Lugers here when I was trying to figure mine out. It was pretty much a 'mutt', made out of at least three donor guns. The crazy thing was, the barrel had the same serial number but a different suffix. Most parts were force-matched and a previous owner had scratched some of his data on the frame flat behind the side plate. I got $200 more than I gave for it a few years ago, so I was good with that, considering what I finally got with the money. Really funny how things work out sometimes...

Yes, this truly is a great forum, and I've found that even without a P.08 its still interesting to follow along and learn more. Who knows? Maybe there's another one in the cards for me!

Giving up your only Luger is like breaking up with your first girl friend. You will never forget her, and as time goes by you will find yourself seeing her in your dreams. This will eventually become an obsession and I predict one day you will find another one to cuddle up with.

Lugers are the excuse, but the guys on this forum are worth knowing regardless. Stick around.
My first post here stated that I was not and never would be a Luger "collector". Didn't make a bit of difference to anybody.

My morning coffee would not be the same without Lugerforum, Lugers in the safe or not :)

There is more fraternal gun "brotherhood" on this forum, than any other place I have ever visited on the internet. All you folks make the work involved in the forum very worth the effort. If I could get paid for working in the background on this website, I would'nt do anything else!
