aftermarket grips
 

Does anyone know if aftermarket grips can be found/made for an Interarms Luger with the Swiss grip? I really like to put a pair of white (faux) ivory, checkered grips on my gun. Also, what is the best finish to use on the stock grips? Mine are in excellent condition but very dried out.

For wood, try Watco Danish Oil, natural-color...apply to both sides and wipe off excess. Use a soft white 100% cotton towel.

Check with Hugh Clark (Hugh) for custom grips. I don't know for sure if he works in imitation ivory, but his grips are excellent. You may have to ship him your grip frame to achieve what you want.

The only redily available grips that I know with interchange with the Mauser Swiss model Parabellum, are the M29 Swiss. I do have these black plastic repros in stock @$35 postpaid. TH at hellerarms@webtv.net

Thanks for the advice. I'll pick up the Danish oil on my next trip to the store. I've just purchased this gun, and at this point, it's the only Luger I have. I might be willing to send it away for custom grips, but not until the new wears off. A set of the black plastic grips might be a good idea. I could take the stock grips off and put them away for safe keeping. I've owned seven other Lugers if you count the .22s. In fact, my first gun, at the tender age of 16, was an Erma EP-22. Although the new gun is still in the cosmoline, it's not going to stay that way. First nice day, it's going to the range.

For your info, Mauser did some Luger with ivory grips. I have in my collection two Mauser Parabellum with ivory grips.
It was possible to order the gun directly from Mauser with ivory grips with different kind of engravings.
For sure now these pistols are really expensive and the probability to find out original Mauser ivory grips is really scarce.

Gotta warn you, that Erma might not be the best shooter, even new out of the cosmolene.
I had picked up a few, years back, and not a one would cycle right.
Lots of FTE and FTF problems.
I think post war, Erma quality control went straight down the tubes.

Good luck on finding those ivory grips, I found some lovely old stag ones on Ebay right before Christmas.

Do be aware that Luger collecting is very addictive and next you will want a vintage one, (or two or three or...well you get the idea). :cool:

Whoops, sorry, I just reread and saw that your *new* Luger is the one in cosmolene.
Did your Ermas actually work?

My first Erma was a bitter lesson. Beauty can be skin deep. It was traded for a Ruger auto pistol before I was permanently scarred. Years later I picked up a little Erma KGP69 that worked very well. The new gun is a Interarms Mauser. I've had several and they've all been good shooters. I discovered this forum last night. I've wasted most of today checking it out. Lots of good stuff here.

A seller named "jimsgrips" on eBay used to sell some plastic/yellowish coloured ones for the M1929's and swiss-Interarms on eBay. He used to describe them as being a "micarta" material.

Original Swiss? They must be cut out in the back for the long grip safety? How does that affect the comfort and appearance? I found a replica grip website that lists Swiss grips but I figured they would be cut for the long grip safety. Although the stock grips on my gun are in good shape, they are definitely not comfortable.

The slot for the grip safety is longer on these grips and really isn't that bad looking and as far as comfort goes, you can't even tell. The slots extend 1/2" further down the grip. In my opinion, the original grips felt like you were gripping the front of a 2x4. I'll post a pic later.

I can sand off the uncomfortable checkering on your Mauser Luger grips and rechecker them like this. It will make them feel much better when you shoot it.
